Nat King Cole – Dahil Sa Iyo

5“Dahil Sa Iyo” is a classic Filipino love song by Mike Velarde, its written in 1938 and sung by Rogelio dela Rosa. A version with English-Tagalog lyrics which means Because of You recorded in 1964. Its wide popularity in the Philippines is such that some think it ought to replace the current national anthem. This song also as a personal favourite of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, she would sing it frequently and still associated with her in Manila. Dahil Sa Iyo was famously performed by Nat King Cole at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City in 1961, also recorded by Julio Iglesias, The Lettermen and so on. (nDy)

Dahil Sa Iyo merupakan lagu cinta klasik berbahasa Tagalog, ciptaan Mike Velarde pada tahun 1938. Saking populernya sampai dianggap sbg pengganti lagu kebangsaan negara bagi imigran, para Pinoy yg tersebar di pelosok bumi khususnya perantauan di Amerika. Terlebih setelah Nat King Cole konser di Philipina pernah menyapa audience lewat lagu yg dihafal dadakan ini, tanpa pernah direkam secara resmi. Kemudian direkam pula oleh Julio Iglesias dan kelompok The Lettermen, dll. Uniknya, lirik Dahil Sa Iyo gak diijinkan untuk diterjemahkan, kecuali judul yg bermakna Because Of You. Balada inipun identik sbg lagu kesayangan Imelda Marcos, ia sering melantunkan di depan tamu kehormatan. “Dahil sa iyo .. ka isang mabuhay”. Karena dikau .. daku ingin hidup. (nDy)
