Al Kooper – You’ve Made Me So Very Happy

5cMany of the greatest moments in Rock were made possible by Al Kooper, or some says he is the Forrest Gump of Rock n Roll. Al has always positioned himself where all the big events were from Bob Dylan to founder of Blood Sweat & Tears, the Super Sessions, played with Hendrix, BB King, Rolling Stones, The Who, discovering and producing Lynyrd Skynyrd. This video and story is truly one of the greatest stories in rock and roll. Al with BS&T first big hit “You’ve Made Me so Very Happy” peak the charts in March 1969. The song was originally recorded by singer Brenda Holloway for Motown in 1967, then BS&T took it as an opening for Big Brother and the Holding Company’s concert. In the notes to the Child reissue Kooper says they only went on a “brief promotional tour” before he was booted from the band, so this really is a rare show indeed. “You’ve Made Me so Very Happy” was obviously in the BS&T repertoire before the second lineup with Clayton-Thomas recorded it to become their signature. Pontianak kota kecil. Artinya masih leluasa nyetir sambil ngudud berikut tangan kanan santai di luar jendela sambil muter puntung. Memang mirip supir angkot, tapi begitulah gaya pengemudi Corolla DX awal 80an, lalu gaduh di lampu merah pake Immigrant Song atau Must Be Love milik James Gang. Hari gini sangat langka mendengar musik Blood Sweat and Tears, apalagi di antrian mobil. Semoga kebahagiaan kecil kayak begini masih menghampiri anda pula. Generasi milenial gak kenal lagi Al Kooper, musisi identik Blood Sweat and Tears setelah jarinya berdarah habis session bareng BB King dan Jimi Hendrix. Ia dianggap fiksi mirip Forest Gump, selalu hadir pada ajang penting Rock n Roll. Al gak sengaja mencet organ saat rekaman Bob Dylan, justru berdampak lagu Like A Rolling Stones sbg pelopor penting era elektronik. Iapun melepas ego lewat The Super Sessions, terlibat John Mayall, Rolling Stones dan The Who di awal karir, menyulap Lynyrd Skynyrd sbg band kebanggaan Amerika lewat Free Ride dan Sweet Home Alabama. Jika kuping Indonesia pernah akrab dgn lirik “Aku mencintaimu lebih dari yang kau tahu”, bukti kesaktian Al jauh sebelum Ahmad Dhani lahir. Al juga mengangkat karya gak dikenal Brenda Holloway jadi mendunia, “You’ve Made Me so Very Happy”. Anda sesekali perlu nyetir sambil merokok, naikkan volume Bad Company dkk agar sensasi Rock 60an tetap kembali. Begitulah cara mencerna tulisan ginian, gak butuh menyadur Wikipedia. Kalo besok ketemu mobil berisik Led Zeppelin dan pengemudinya merokok, mungkin kita lagi papasan. Selamat datang era 2020, stay Rocks. (nDy)
