Metro – Tree People

Picture1The band was founded in spring 1994 by Chuck Loeb and Mitchel Forman, who dreamed of starting their own cooperative project for over 20 years since they work together for Stan Getz. During long career they have often met again, including for a tour and live album by Bill Evans called Petite Blonde. They have never led a band together before “Metro”. For steady band they looked for a great bassman and drummer. So German drummer Wolfgang Haffner was invited on recommendation of Anthony Jackson who had worked with him on several occasion in Europe. The band recorded debut album called “Metro” like the band, directly after the tour at Hansahaus Studios in Bonn. In spring 1995 Anthony Jackson left the band, replaced by Victor Bailey (Weather Report, Petite Blonde, etc). They recorded the second album “Tree People” in NY, 1995.

Pianis Mitchel Forman dan gitaris Chuck Loeb, musisi studio yg telah sering bertemu dalam beberapa konser tamu. Akhirnya mereka sepakat bikin proyek sambil merasakan saatnya jadi pemimpin band sendiri. Kebetulan bertemu basis Anthony Jackson yg juga sedang tour di Eropah, lantas ngajak drumer Wolfgang Haffner yg menemani selama di Jerman. Terbentuklah Metro sambil rekaman langsung di studio kota Bonn, tahun 1994. Sepulang ke Amerika, Anthony berpisah akibat kesibukan studio. Posisinya digantikan Victor Bailey yg makin menegaskan ciri rock mirip Weather Report pada album kedua, Tree People. (nDy)
